Locations of our translators

Kyrgyz belongs to the Altaic language family and is related to Kazakh. It has the closest relationship with that language in the Altai region. In addition to Russian, it is the official language in Kyrgyzstan and is spoken by about two-thirds of the population as a native language. Kyrgyz minorities also live in China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. In total, around 5 million people speak Kyrgyz, most of them as mother tongue. Until the mid-20th century, Kyrgyz was written in a modified Arabic script, and a Latin script was briefly used too. Eventually, due to Soviet influence, a modified form of the Cyrillic alphabet was standardised and is used even at present. Nevertheless, the Arabic script continues to be used by some Kyrgyz speakers, albeit a small minority.
